　　在法国边境的丛林中，一群狼遭到猎人的伏击，只有一只黑色的幼崽侥幸逃脱。幼崽跑入镇上寻找父母的尸体。少女安琪将它救下，并起名卡卡，放归大自然。
　　
　　1914年世界大战爆发，战火蔓延到这个边远小镇。镇上的戈辛父子借战争大发其财，其子埃米尔（Jean-Paul Rouve 饰）也与安琪（Laetitia Casta 莉苔希娅?考斯特 饰）定下了婚事。要强的安琪决心成为法国第一位女兽医，他和俄罗斯野兽搜寻者开飞机寻找家乡的狼群。飞机失事，受伤的安琪被卡卡和人们称之为疯子的吉塞比（Stefano Accorsi 饰）解救。愤怒的埃米尔认为狼群吃掉了未婚妻，遂决定将最后的野狼赶杀殆尽……
