　　　　莱姆病由扁虱传染，尽管起初只是平常的出疹和瘙痒，但随着时间的推移，患者会出现全身性关节炎和各类神经性症状，可以说是一种十分糟糕的不治之症，需要投入大量的金钱和时间，终生治疗。女孩艾德里安（艾玛·罗伯茨 Emma Roberts 饰）的父亲查理（蒂莫西·赫顿 Timothy Hutton 饰）不幸患上了莱姆病，本来就不富裕的一家人陷入了入不敷出的窘境之中。无奈之下，妻子梅丽莎（辛西娅·尼克松 Cynthia Nixon 饰）只得受雇于邻居米奇（亚历克·鲍德温 Alec Baldwin 饰），没想到却因此而被卷入了一个剪不断理还乱的的大麻烦之中。就在众人焦头烂额的节骨眼上，艾德里安却爱上了米奇的儿子斯科特（罗瑞·卡尔金 Rory Culkin 饰）。
